Peace Action Fund of New York State is dedicated to ending war, abolishing nuclear weapons, and demanding our leaders prioritize human needs over endless militarism. We pursue these goals through public outreach and educational initiatives that engage and inspire the next generation of peace movement leaders.

Our Projects

  • Our keystone Campus Organizing Program is preparing young people to be lifelong advocates for peace and diplomacy. The program provides educational resources and mentorship to undergraduate student peace activists who establish campus-recognized Peace Action chapters on their campuses. Founded in 2011, the program has been a presence on at least 60 campuses across the state of New York. Click here to learn more.

  • We advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons via educational campaigns that raise public awareness of the ongoing impacts and threats posed by nuclear weapons. As a New York City-based organization, we regularly organize and co-sponsor public demonstrations and educational forums to coincide with nuclear treaty meetings at the United Nations, such as the Meeting of States Parties to the TPNW and the NPT Conference. We also join the broader Peace Action network in annual commemorations of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki.

  • Based in New York City, we serve as a hub for global, grassroots solidarity organizing for the national Peace Action network through regular engagement at the United Nations and with international coalitions. PAFNYS prioritizes organizing alongside diaspora-led advocacy partners including Korea Peace Now, the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), the International Coalition for Human Rights in the Philippines, and more.

  • Sylvia Rodriguez Case

    BOARD CHAIR

    In 2017, Sylvia retired from PAFNYS as co-director and joined its board. Prior to joining PAFNYS, Sylvia had a long career as a media director at major advertising agencies. She was also the business manager of Avenging Angels Inc., the political agency founded by her late husband Gene Case. She has been a key member of Finance and Fundraising Committees and also served as Board Secretary.

  • Sally Jones

    VICE CHAIR

    Sally Jones has been involved with Peace Action New York State since 2002, when she helped form the Staten Island chapter. She served as chair of PAFNYS from 2012-2013. She spent a career in software development and is active in local civic groups and with the Unitarian Church of Staten Island. 

  • Joanne Robinson

    TREASURER

    Joanne is a community activist who has worked with the NAACP, the Black Women’s Political Caucus, WESPAC, Peace Action and Westchester Black Democrats. Her mother, May Morgan Robinson, was a leader in civil rights and in the Westchester Democratic Party. Joanne and her twin sister, Roberta, carry on this tradition.

  • Colleen Moore

    SECRETARY

    Colleen is the Director of Peace With Justice at the General Board of Church and Society, the social justice agency of the United Methodist Church. In her position, she is responsible for developing and managing the agency's legislative and policy advocacy in support of peace and justice. She previously held roles at Women Cross DMZ, Global Zero, Beyond the Bomb, Win Without War, and Seeds of Peace. Colleen holds a Master of Arts degree in International Relations from American University's School of International Service.

  • Tara Currie

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    Tara has been active with progressive groups in Brooklyn for decades, currently with Indivisible BK, and Brooklyn For Peace. In the 20th century, Tara was a film/video editor, becoming a website director in the 21st. She plays the guitar badly.

  • Dr. Alexandria Connelly

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    Dr. Connally is the assistant to Regent Francis Wills. Formerly, she was the assistant to Regent Judith Johnson, the Assistant Secretary of Education during the Clinton Administration. Dr. Connally is the co-chair of Sister-to-Sister International’s Black Woman’s Girl Child, Juvenile Justice/ Suspension Committee and the founder of Culturally Responsive Environments & Discipline (C.R.E.A.D.)

  • Blanche Wiesen Cook

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    Blanche is the Distinguished Professor of History and Women’s Studies at John Jay College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. She is the NYT bestselling author of the definitive biographies of Eleanor Roosevelt.

  • Mimi Healy

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    Mimi Healy is an associate for the Costs of War project at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University. She received her Masters in Social Anthropology from the London School of Economics and Political Science, where her dissertation focused on liminality, affect, and reproduction. She has worked for and received training from various peace organizations, including Peace Action of NY, the Peace Corps, UNESCO, CodePink, Women Against War, Amnesty International, and others. 

  • David Jones

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    David is a community activist and musician. In Staten Island, he helped create the St. George Food Coop and served as President of the St. George Civic Association. During the 90’s secession debate, David helped form Staten Islanders for a Unified New York and served on the SI Democratic Association Executive Committee.

  • Dr. Agnieszka Nimark

    MEMBER AT LARGE

    Dr. Agnieszka Nimark is a multidisciplinary scholar with a PhD in law from the European University Institute, Florence, Italy. Nimark has been affiliated with the Reppy Institute for Peace and Conflict Studies, Cornell University, since 2014. Nimark coordinates a Working Group on Nuclear Disarmament Education; is a non-resident Associate Senior Researcher in Global Geopolitics and Security at Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB) in Spain; and represents CIDOB within the European Union Nonproliferation and Disarmament Consortium (EUNPDC).

  • Lawrence Wittner

    MEMBER AT L ARGE

    Larry has been an activist in the peace, racial justice, and labor movements for 60 years and has served as co-chair of the Peace Action national board. A professor of history emeritus at SUNY/Albany, he is the author of numerous books and articles about peace movements and foreign policy.
